Sergeant Major Tracey D. Nicholson
Sergeant Major Nicholson is a native of Newport News, Virginia, and enlisted in the Marine Corps, December 1995. March 1996, she graduated as honor graduate from Platoon 4008, Marine Corps Recruit Deport, Parris Island, South Carolina. After recruit training, she was assigned to the Communications School in Twentynine Palms, California, where she was trained in her Military Occupational Specality as a Data Communicator. June 1996, she graduated as honor graduate.
In July 1996, she reported to her first duty station; Inspector-Instructor duty, Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she was assigned to the G6 Message Communications Center. During her tour, she was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal; later promoted to a Corporal and assigned as the Platoon Sergeant. She attended Corporal's Course, graduated in 1st place and presented with the highest PFT award.
In November 1998, she reported to 7th Communication Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan, where she served as the Information Systems Management Operator Noncommissioned Officer in Charge and the Battalion's Training Chief. While stationed in Okinawa, she deployed to Samut Prakan, Thailand, where she pinned on Sergeant and later attended Sergeant's Course, graduating as the Honor Graduate in August 1999. In December 1999, she reported to Marine Forces Atlantic in Norfolk, Virginia
for duty as the Defense Message Center Noncommissioned Officer, and later as the Electronic Key Management System's Noncommissioned Officer. During her tour, she attended a workshop on Terrorism Negotiation in Washington, DC. March 2000; she attended the Defense Message System School and graduated number two; which earned her the Military Occupational Specialty of 4066/0656-Small Computer Specialist; at which time, she was assigned to the Defense Message System's Team. She was then selected by the Base Sergeant Major to drill with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Color Guard Team from January 2001-January 2002. She also volunteered as the Battalion's Uniform Victim Advocate and Suicide Hotline Operator.
In May 2002, she reported to lwakuni Japan, where she served as the Career Retention Specialist for Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron Battalion, Marine Corps Air Station. While stationed in lwakuni, she earned her black belt in martial arts and volunteered as the Battalion's Uniform Victim Advocate, Red Cross Advisor, weekly and weekend Guest Speaker for the Lifestyle, Insights, Networking, Knowledge and Skills (L.I.N.K.S) group, and she was the Battalion's Remedial Physical Fitness Trainer. In 2003, she submitted a package for the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Degree Completion Program (SNCODCP).
In December 2004, she was selected for the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Degree Completion Program and reported to Training and Education Command, Quantico Virginia, where she majored in Psychology at the University of Maryland, University College in Adelphi, Maryland.
In December 2005, she reported to Headquarters Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and served as the Substance Abuse Control Officer, Equal Opportunity Representative, Uniform Victim Advocate, Casualty Assistance Calls Officer and Suicide Awareness Counselor for the Family Advocacy Program.
In December 2008, she was transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where she served as the Regimental Career Retention Specialist. In January 2011, she was attached to 2nd Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, where she deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In January 2012, she reported to 8th Communication Battalion, Bravo Company, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, subsequently deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with Alpha Company.
In November 2013, she reported to Marine Corps Detachment, Weapons Training Battalion, Training Command, Fort Lee, Virginia, to serve in Bravo Company. From July 2015 to September 2015, she served as a member on the FY 2015 Staff Noncommissioned Officer (SNCO) Promotion Board in Quantico, VA. In 2016, she was nominated and selected to serve as a mentor at the First Sergeant's Course for class 1-16, with a population of 117 newly selected First Sergeants.
In November 2016, she reported to 1st Law Enforcement Battalion (lstLEBn), I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, to serve in Bravo Company and later 1stLEBn Headquarter's section.
In December 2017, she assumed her duties at Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing. In May 2018, she participated in the Unit Deployment Program 18.2, and subsequently traveled to Korea and lwakuni Japan, ISO varies operations.
In December 2019, she left her duties as the Sergeant Major at Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, and was appointed as the Sergeant Major at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Cherry Point, North Carolina.
In January 2022, she left her duties as the Sergeant Major at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Cherry Point, North Carolina and PCS'ed to Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group, where she is currently stationed.
Sergeant Major Nicholson's personal awards includes the Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), and the Outstanding Military Service Medal.
