David D. Dean
Deputy Director
David D. Dean is the Deputy Commander, Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group, Quantico, Virginia. He directly supervises the staff and activities of the command in the execution of its global Service enterprise network operations and defense mission.
Mr. Dean was born in Detroit, Michigan and graduated from high school in Brighton, Michigan. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in March 1977 and was later commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in August 1985. Mr. Dean retired from active duty at the rank of Major in September 2001.
Mr. Dean’s officer assignments included: Head, Information Resources Center, 1st Force Service Support Group (1986-1989); Course Director, Computer Sciences School (1989-1991); Information Systems Management Officer, I Marine Expeditionary Force (1992-1995); Information Systems Management Officer, III Marine Expeditionary Force (1996-1997), and Operations Officer, Marine Corps Information Technology and Network Operations Center (1997-2001).
Mr. Dean’s formal military education includes the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Career Course (1984), The Basic School (1986), Data Systems Officer Course (1986), and Amphibious Warfare School (1992).
Mr. Dean holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina (1996).
His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
Upon retirement from active duty, Mr. Dean continued to serve the Marine Corps in a contractor capacity at the Marine Corps Network Operations and Security Center. In March 2004, he accepted an appointment as a GS-14 in the federal civil service and was assigned to the Marine Corps Network Operations and Security Command as the Deputy Plans Officer (S5) and later as Deputy Operations Officer (S-3). In June 2010, he was promoted to GS-15 while serving as the Duty Operations Officer. In December 2012, Mr. Dean was selected to serve in his current assignment as the Deputy Commander, Marine Corps Network Operations and Security Center.
