Lieutenant Colonel Andrew S. Walker
Lieutenant Colonel Andrew S. Walker graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering and a commission as a Marine Officer. He graduated from The Basic School in Quantico, VA in December of 2007 and received orders to the Basic Communications Officer Course. Upon graduation from Communications School, LtCol Walker was assigned to 8th Marine Regiment in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as the Assistant Communications Officer (S-6A). LtCol Walker deployed to Iraq with Regimental Combat Team 8 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the S-6A, S-6 Operations Officer, and the Communications Platoon Commander.
In February of 2010, LtCol Walker received orders to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment. While serving as the Communications Officer, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In addition to serving as the Communications Officer, LtCol Walker also served as the day Senior Watch Officer for the Battalion. Upon redeployment, he received orders to Communications School in Quantico, VA.
LtCol Walker reported to the Communications School in June of 2011. While at Communications School, LtCol Walker served as a Faculty Advisor, Instructor, and the Deputy Course Coordinator for the Basic Communications Officer Course. He also served as the Enlisted Instructor Platoon Commander. During his time at Communications School, LtCol Walker graduated from the Advanced Communications Officer Course.
LtCol Walker attended Expeditionary Warfare School during the 2015 academic year. Upon completion of Expeditionary Warfare School, he was assigned to Officer Candidates School (OCS) as a summer augment. While at OCS, LtCol Walker served as an instructor and evaluator within the Academics Section.
LtCol Walker reported to 8th Communication Battalion in August of 2015. He assumed command of Company A on 3 September 2015. As the Company Commander, he deployed his company to Norway in support of 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade during Exercise Cold Response 16. Additionally, he provided detachments in support of MEFEX 16 and Exercise Bold Alligator 16. LtCol Walker was subsequently assigned as the Company Commander, Service Company, 8th Communication Battalion where he served until June of 2017. From June of 2017 until May of 2018, LtCol Walker served as the Operations Officer (S-3) of 8th Communication Battalion.
LtCol Walker completed his Master of Science in Systems Technology at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and subsequently completed a utilization tour in the Operations Branch of IC4 Division, Deputy Commandant for Information.
LtCol Walker’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star.
