Major Andrew C. Barton
Second Lieutenant Andrew C. Barton commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer training program in 2010. He reported to The Basic School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, where he attended the Basic Officer Course. He then reported to Communications School at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA, where he attended the Basic Communications Officer Course (MOS 0602).

In August 2011, 2ndLt Barton received orders to 3d Marine Division Communications Company, Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Wire Platoon Commander and S-3A. He was promoted to First Lieutenant during this assignment. In 2012 he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and was attached to 3d Battalion 9th Marines as a Marine Advisor to Afghan National Security Forces (MOSs 570 and 0571).

In July 2013, 1stLt Barton received orders to Marine Corps Systems Command where he served as the SMART-T, ECCS, and VSAT-E Project Officer within Program Manager MAGTF C3 (MOS 8057). 1stLt Barton was promoted to Captain during this assignment.

In July 2016, Captain Barton was selected to attend Expeditionary Warfare School at Quantico, VA. After this course, he reported to Officer Candidate School as a summer augment to serve as an Academics Instructor and Faculty Advisor.

In August 2017, Captain Barton reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 where he served as Detachment Executive Officer, Detachment Commander, and S-3A. He attended the Marine Air Ground Task Force Communications Planners Course (MOS 0603).

In July of 2020, Captain Barton was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA for the Information Technology Management program (MOS: 8848). His thesis research focused on artificial intelligence and human machine teaming. He was promoted to Major during this assignment. Here he also served as an Expeditionary Warfare School instructor.

In July of 2022, Maj Barton received orders to the Deputy Commandant for Information, where he served as an Action Officer and Networks Planner in the Expeditionary and Enterprise Communications Branch within the Information, Command, Control, Communications and Computers.

In July 2025, Maj Barton received orders to 2d Network Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to serve as the Executive Officer.

Maj Barton holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from University of Arizona, Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix, and a Master of Science in Information Technology Management from Naval Postgraduate School (Distinguished Graduate and Outstanding Thesis awards). He also holds graduate certificates in Chief Information Officer Management and Advocating for Emerging Technologies from Naval Postgraduate School.

Maj Barton’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2nd award) and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is also the recipient of the 2023 Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association and the United States Naval Institute Copernicus Award, 2022 Naval Postgraduate School Superior Service Award, as well as the 2018 MAGTF Communications Planners Course honor graduate and Gung-Ho awards.
