Major Kristina L. Nunes
Major Nunes is a native of Odenton, Maryland. She reported to recruit training at MCRD Paris Island and graduated with platoon 4038 in November of 2006. Upon completion of the School of Infantry and CH-46 maintenance school in July of 2007, Private First Class Nunes reported to Helicopter Medium Marine Squadron 265 in Okinawa, Japan. There she completed deployments with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Her duties included CH-46 Flightline Mechanic and aerial observer. In 2009, Lance Corporal Nunes was selected to attend the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, RI. Upon graduation in May 2010, Corporal Nunes was selected to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD., 

In May 2014, she commissioned in the United States Marine Corps from the United States Naval Academy. Upon completion of The Basic School (TBS) in February 2015, Second Lieutenant Nunes reported to the Marine Corps Communications and Electronic School, Twenty-Nine Palms, CA. Upon successful completion of the Basic Communications Officer Course, she reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron-18 in Okinawa, Japan. Her key billets included Data and Technical Control Platoon Command, Alert Contingency MAGTF Platoon Commander, and Company Operations Officer. 

First Lieutenant Nunes transferred to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing G-6 in Okinawa, Japan, in May 2018. Her key billets included Operations Officer and Helpdesk Officer-In-Charge. In June 2019, she reported to TBS where she served as a Warfighting Instructor, Staff Platoon Commander for Alpha Company 1-21, and TBS S-6 Officer. Following a successful tour at TBS Capt Nunes reported to Expeditionary Warfare School and graduated in May 2023. 

In May 2023, Captain Nunes was assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, as the Current Operations Officer, AC/S G-6. During this time, she directed, supervised, and executed the establishment and operations of the MAGTF Communications Control Center (MCCC), one of II MEF's four standing centers. Through the MCCC she task organized, managed, and supervised the employment of communications resources ISO MEF operations, activities, and investments per the MEF campaign plan; enabled assured C2 and resilient information exchange across (3) geographic combatant commands. While deployed in support of exercise NORDIC RESPONSE 24, newly promoted Major Nunes planned and directed the installation, accreditation, and operation of a persistent NATO classified network in support of the information exchange requirements of II MEF forces with NATO for the exercise and future theater activities. 

In June 2024, Major Nunes assumed Command of Communication Company, Headquarters Battalion, 2d Marine Division.   During this time, she led the training, maintenance, and operational readiness for over 280 Marines and unit equipment to enable C2 of all forces assigned to 2dMARDIV for the 2dMARDIV CG including joint, coalition forces, and multinational organizations. In March 2026, she was re-assigned within the Battalion as the Operations Officer. In this role, she planned for the operational employment of the Battalion including 4 companies and 1000 personnel. Maj Nunes synchronized, coordinated, and supervised all activities including division schools, SLTE support, C2 support, Midshipmen Summer Training support, and 4th CEB activation.  

In June 2026, Maj Nunes received orders to 2d Network Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to serve as the Executive Officer. 

Maj Nunes holds a Bachelor’s of Science in General Science from the United States Naval Academy. Major Nunes is a graduate of Weapons and Tactics Instructor C4 course, Intermediate MAGTF Information Operations Planners Course, Distance Expeditionary Warfare School, and Resident Expeditionary Warfare School. Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star, and Good Conduct Medal.
