Lieutenant Colonel Jorge J. Caro
1ST NETWORK BATTALION

Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Caro, a native of San Diego, enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 2001. After recruit training, he was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 (MALS-11), Marine Aircraft Group 11 (MAG-11), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Miramar, California. He deployed with MALS-11 in support of OIF from January to May 2003. Upon his return, he was accepted to the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection Training program, and he subsequently reported to NROTC San Diego for participation under the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education Program. He accepted his commission as a Second Lieutenant in May 2009.

He attended The Basic School from June 2009 to January 2010 followed by the Basic Communications Officers Course from January to June 2010 in Quantico, Virginia.

From July 2010 to July 2013, he served with 9th Communication Battalion. He was first assigned to Company C to serve as the Executive Officer/Operations Officer. Upon promotion to First Lieutenant in May 2011, he was assigned to Company A as the Data Platoon Commander and deployed in support of OEF from June to December 2012. Upon his return from deployment, he was assigned as Executive Officer, Company A, until his transfer in June 2013.

In July 2013, he reported to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Okinawa, Japan, and was assigned as the G-6 Deputy Operations Officer for Marine Corps Base Camp Butler. In March 2014, he took command of Company B, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific. In June 2015, he was assigned as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations Pacific.

In July 2016, he reported to Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division and was assigned as Operations Officer, Communications Company, 1st Marine Division. After six months, he received orders to Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, Kuwait, where he went on to serve as an operational planner in the CJ-35 future plans section. Upon returning from Kuwait, he was assigned as the Executive Officer, Communications Company, 1st Marine Division until his transfer in June 2019 to the Naval Postgraduate School.

From June 2019 – June 2021, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School, obtaining a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management and an MBA in Information Systems Management.

In August 2021, he reported to IC4, serving as a project officer planning the Marine Corps migration to the Impact Level Six cloud-based secret internet protocol router network (SIPRNET). Then in January 2023, Lieutenant Colonel Caro was assigned to an Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy inter-service team to study the Russia-Ukraine War to inform changes in the future character of war and DoD strategic investments.

From January 2024 to July 2025, he served as the Operations Officer, AC/S G-6, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. From July 2025 to June 2026, he served as the ACOS N5 Plans Officer, Expeditionary Strike Group Three.

Lieutenant Colonel Caro assumed his current position on 24 June 2026 as the Commanding Officer of 1st Network Battalion.

Lieutenant Colonel Caro holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, a Master’s in Information Technology Management, and an MBA in Information Systems Management. He is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School, Command and Staff College, and Air War College distance education programs.
